Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has accused head coach Gautam Gambhir of engineering the retirements of senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, claiming Gambhir sidelined them to prevent dissent and maintain control. Tiwary alleged that since Gambhir assumed charge, controversial moves, such as Rohit being replaced as ODI captain and unexpected squad inclusions, have followed, and that the atmosphere created may compel established players to feel unwanted and walk away (“these guys will raise questions … you just made sure they are not there”). He also warned that excluding veterans of such stature would be a poor decision for India’s prospects, especially with the 2027 World Cup in view.
