In a significant stride toward early detection of Alzheimer’s disease, researchers have identified seven key blood biomarkers that could signal the onset of the condition before symptoms appear. These markers, found through advanced diagnostic studies, focus on inflammation, neuronal damage, and metabolic changes factors closely linked to cognitive decline.
Among the indicators are elevated levels of plasma tau and neurofilament light chain, which point to nerve cell damage. Other markers include C-reactive protein and interleukins, tied to brain inflammation, and indicators of insulin resistance that suggest impaired brain energy metabolism.
Monitoring these biomarkers may allow for timely interventions potentially slowing the progression or delaying the onset of Alzheimer’s. Experts stress the importance of regular health check-ups and genetic assessments, especially for individuals with a family history of dementia.
