H5N1 Alert: Cambodia Confirms 12th Case, Key Symptoms to Monitor

Cambodia has reported its 12th H5N1 avian influenza case this year, raising fresh public health concerns. The latest patient, a 50-year-old man from Kampot province, tested positive for the virus after developing flu-like symptoms and was immediately isolated. Health officials are actively tracing contacts and monitoring the area to prevent further spread.

H5N1, known for its high mortality rate in humans, typically spreads through contact with infected birds. Experts advise early detection, as the virus can cause severe respiratory distress, fever, cough, and fatigue. If untreated, it may escalate into pneumonia and multi-organ failure.

Amid rising global bird flu cases, health authorities urge vigilance and prompt medical attention at the first sign of symptoms. Public advisories stress avoiding contact with poultry and consuming only thoroughly cooked meat and eggs to reduce infection risk.
