'Thamma' director reacts to criticism of having three item songs in the film, addresses speculation of Shah Rukh Khan joining the horror comedy universe

Director Aditya Sarpotdar has responded to criticism of his upcoming film Thamma having three item songs, explaining that because the film is part of a glamorous vampire-inflected horror-comedy universe, the songs fit the tone of the world he created, even if audiences didn’t react to them the same way as earlier works. He noted that this universe, following films like Munjya, Bhediya and Stree 2, readily accommodates such spectacle, and that though the talent-hungry crowd may question the number of item numbers, the fact that people still turned up to see the film satisfies him. On the subject of speculation that Shah Rukh Khan might join this horror-comedy universe, Sarpotdar said that if Khan were to come aboard, he would ideally be the unifying hero rather than a villain, someone in the league of a superhero-figure rather than an antagonist, bringing together characters and scale in a film that could break new ground.
