Yami Gautam has voiced her support for Deepika Padukone’s stance on limiting work shifts in films to eight hours, explaining that while many actors do follow such a time-cap (“actors who shoot for only eight hours a day, shoot five days a week” she said), the agreement is a collaborative decision between the actor, director and producer. She noted that although a time-cap “would be nice like any other field,” filmmaking involves -- locations, permissions, other actors, technicians and “so many things,” so ultimately scheduling is “very subjective” and negotiated in advance. She questioned why a female actor asking for what already exists among some peers is suddenly controversial, pointing out that if the production is okay with it, there’s no issue. Meanwhile, the debate arises after Deepika’s reported demand to work eight-hour shifts caused her to exit two upcoming films, as the industry discussed whether the clause is feasible.
