Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara is proving that love stories still have the power to pack theatres. The romantic musical starring Ahaan Panday and Anette Padda has quietly waltzed its way past the 325 crore mark in just 33 days. Not bad for a film that had to fight for screen space against Rajinikanth’s Coolie and the Hrithik Roshan Jr NTR powerhouse War 2.
From day one, the numbers told a promising tale. The film opened at 21.5 crore, touched a high of 35.75 crore on its third day, and ended its first week with a dazzling 172.75 crore. Week two added another 107.75 crore, week three 28.25 crore, and week four 14.1 crore. Even in week five, the film managed to hold its own with lakhs trickling in each day, pushing the total to 325.11 crore by day 33.
What makes this run remarkable is that Saiyaara never had the luxury of dominating the big screens. Yet word of mouth turned it into the sweetheart of younger audiences. Its music, wrapped around a tender love story, pulled fans back for repeat viewings. Once the initial madness for Coolie and War 2 began to ease, theatre chains slipped Saiyaara back into their schedules to meet demand. Even single screen theatres joined the party, proving that the film’s charm is universal.
Now officially the fourteenth biggest hit in Hindi cinema, Saiyaara is unlikely to overtake Tiger Zinda Hai which sits pretty in thirteenth place with 339.16 crore. But honestly, who cares. For a film that was expected to be overshadowed, it has carved its own glittering chapter at the box office. Love clearly wins again.
