Mahavatar Narsimha’beats Ajay Devgn’s ‘Raid 2’ to emerge as ..

Ashwin Kumar’s Mahavatar Narsimha is rewriting the rules of box office success. On its 31st day, the Hindi version crossed Rs 175.4 crore, quietly nudging past Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, which had collected Rs 173.44 crore in its lifetime. This makes Mahavatar Narsimha the fourth biggest Hindi grosser of 2025, a stellar achievement for an animated mythological film navigating a fiercely competitive landscape.

The journey started modestly, with a first-day collection of Rs 1.35 crore. Yet the film’s heartfelt storytelling and fresh take on the tale of Hiranyakashyap and Prahlad sparked word-of-mouth magic. By the end of its opening weekend, the Hindi version had amassed Rs 32.45 crore, holding its own against the buzz around Saiyaara, released a week earlier. Week two escalated the momentum, bringing in Rs 54.95 crore.

Weeks three and four maintained the surge, adding Rs 53.75 crore and Rs 24.6 crore respectively. Then came the historic fifth weekend. On Day 30, the film added Rs 3.6 crore, and Day 31 saw a further jump to Rs 4.65 crore, according to Sacnilk. That pushed the total to Rs 175.4 crore, officially dethroning Raid 2 and cementing Mahavatar Narsimha as the fourth highest-grossing Hindi film of the year, just days after it had nudged past Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par.

Beyond the numbers, Mahavatar Narsimha is a landmark for Indian animation and mythology. At a time when audiences are mesmerized by Hollywood polish, this film proves that Indian stories, told with conviction and emotional depth, can cast their own spell. Its cultural resonance, visual grandeur, and emotional weight have drawn repeat viewers, making it one of 2025’s most unexpectedly triumphant films.
