Religious mythologies are taking a serious hit this year, and for that we have to thank Ashwin Kumar's Mahavatar Narasimha. This one isn’t just roaring at the box office — it’s practically doing victory laps like it owns the track. The Hindi version alone has scooped up a jaw-dropping ₹126.15 crore, a huge flex that slides it neatly into the sixth spot among 2025’s Hindi blockbusters.
From a modest ₹1.35 crore opening day (barely a whisper in the cinematic chaos), Mahavatar Narasimha wasted no time switching gears. By the weekend, word-of-mouth and glowing reviews had the numbers soaring — ₹3.25 crore on Day 2, ₹6.8 crore on Day 3 — sealing Week 1 at a comfy ₹32.45 crore. Week 2? Even hotter, adding ₹54.95 crore like it was pocket change. And then came the third weekend: ₹16 crore on Saturday, ₹17.5 crore on Sunday, blasting past both Sky Force (₹113.62 crore) and Sikandar (₹110.36 crore) without breaking a sweat.
In all languages combined, the mythological animation now sits on a royal ₹168.75 crore throne. That’s some serious cash for a genre people usually side-eye outside festival seasons.
Of course, no victory is without its next challenge. Standing ahead are only five mega-releases — Chhava, Saiyaara, Sitaara Zameen Par, Housefull 5, and Raid 2. But all eyes are on 14 August, when cinematic thunder strikes: Rajinikanth & Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie versus Hrithik Roshan & Jr NTR’s War 2.
Will Mahavatar Narasimha hold its ground against this Bollywood-Tollywood tag-team storm? Or will it bow out gracefully with a crown still shining? Either way, it’s already proven one thing — in 2025, animated mythological epics aren’t here to play; they’re here to conquer.
