Health experts are advising people to rethink the use of seed oils like sunflower, soybean, and canola in their daily cooking. These oils, although widely used, may not be the healthiest choice due to their high levels of omega-6 fatty acids and the industrial processes involved in their production.
Excess consumption of omega-6 fatty acids, especially without a proper balance of omega-3s, can contribute to chronic inflammation. Additionally, seed oils typically undergo heavy processing methods including oxidation, bleaching, deodorizing, and the use of chemical solvents like hexane. Many are also extracted from genetically modified crops that may be treated with harmful chemicals.
As healthier alternatives, nutritionists and health experts suggest turning to natural fats like extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, avocado, and nuts. These are minimally processed and provide essential nutrients without the risks associated with seed oils.
