Top Travel Scams Tourists Must Watch Out For

Travellers across the globe are increasingly falling victim to sophisticated scams that target unsuspecting tourists. From overpriced taxis with rigged meters to fake tour guides and distraction thefts, scams are becoming more creative and harder to detect.

One of the most common tricks is the “closed hotel” lie, where taxi drivers mislead tourists into booking more expensive accommodation. Counterfeit ticket sellers near attractions and inflated charges at restaurants lacking printed menus are also on the rise.

Fake petitions and friendship bracelets offered on the street are often a ploy to distract and pickpocket. Even tampered ATMs are used to skim card details. Authorities advise staying alert, researching local scams in advance, avoiding unsolicited help, and using verified booking platforms.
