White tigers, known for their striking appearance and rarity, remain a major draw at select Indian zoos. These majestic creatures, a result of a genetic variation in Bengal tigers, are protected under strict conservation programs. India, home to the first white tiger spotted in the wild in 1951, continues to house a limited number of them in controlled environments.
Key locations to spot white tigers include Delhi Zoo, renowned for its historical significance; Lucknow Zoo, which actively supports conservation; and Nandankanan Zoological Park in Odisha, where the first zoo-born white tiger was bred. Other notable zoos include Chennai’s Arignar Anna Zoological Park, the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park in Patna, and the Kamla Nehru Zoological Garden in Ahmedabad.
These zoos not only offer a rare glimpse into the world of this elusive species but also play a vital role in awareness and breeding initiatives.
