Delhi wakes to heavy rain, travel chaos; IMD predicts more showers ahead

The capital of India did not just wake up to rain — it woke up to a wet opera. Streets are burning—turning into mineral lakes. Flights are getting fashionably late, and the IMD just let in a Monday with a “brace yourselves” because we’ve got a monsoon mood swing incoming. Saturday’s downpour drenched the city in style, with areas like Shastri Bhawan, R.K. Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar getting the full VIP water treatment. Mathura Road was practically auditioning for Venice, while Bharat Mandapam’s Gate No. 7 hosted a surprise pool party no one signed up for. Connaught Place and Panchkuian Marg weren’t far behind, trading their usual traffic chaos for the chaos of floating auto-rickshaws.

The IMD, with its best poker face, has already hinted at “more showers later,” which in Delhi-speak means: keep your umbrellas, raincoats, and patience on standby. Around 90 flights decided punctuality was overrated, leading to a ripple effect of delays and cranky coffee queues at the airport.

If you think this is dramatic for August, remember—Delhi just had its wettest May in 124 years. Clearly, the skies have been binging on drama and refusing to cut carbs. Whether you call it climate change, monsoon mania, or nature’s way of keeping us humble, one thing’s certain: the capital is in for a splashy week.
