Apple is planning to launch its first foldable iPhone in late 2026, likely alongside the iPhone 18 series, and it’s expected to be the company’s most expensive iPhone ever, with a starting price around US$2,000 (≈ ₹1,76,000). The foldable design will take heavy inspiration from the iPhone Air—currently the thinnest iPhone at 5.6 mm with a titanium frame—with a form described as “two iPhone Airs stacked on top of one another joined by a hinge.” Even so, when folded the thickness could reach about 11.2 mm, which would still be thicker than competitors like the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (8.9 mm). The device is also rumoured to have a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen for use when folded; Apple may forego Face ID to keep the profile slim, relying instead on alternative biometric methods. Production is expected to be partly in China, despite Apple’s recent trend of shifting more manufacturing to India.
