The French government has strongly rebuked Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, following his public claim that French intelligence had once requested, via an intermediary, that he help censor certain Telegram channels tied to Moldova ahead of its presidential election. Durov says he refused, calling the demand “unacceptable on several levels.” French officials responded by dismissing the accusation as baseless and politically timed, with the foreign ministry accusing Durov of making unfounded allegations “while elections are ongoing.”
