A U.S.-based startup, Pivotal, has developed an ultralight electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) flying car priced at around ₹1.6 crore, which can be operated without a pilot’s license under FAA regulations. Weighing just 115 kg without safety equipment, this single-seat vehicle uses eight electric propellers for both vertical lift and horizontal flight, reaching speeds up to 100 km/h. Its tilt-body design allows the same propellers to handle lift and cruise, while flight is controlled via a simple joystick and thumb control, with automated takeoff and landing assisted by onboard software. Equipped with sensors monitoring wind, airspeed, and location, the aircraft maintains stability even in strong winds, and potential operators undergo a two-week training program, including simulator sessions, before flying independently.
