Google Warns Users of AI-Driven Scams Targeting Job Seekers and Businesses

Google has issued a new advisory warning users about the rising threat of AI-driven scams targeting job seekers, businesses, and individuals through impersonation and fraud. Scammers are now using advanced AI tools to create fake job listings, cloned company websites, and even deepfake video interviews to steal personal or banking details, often demanding fake “processing fees.” Businesses are also being hit by “review extortion” campaigns, where fraudsters post negative reviews and demand money to remove them. Additionally, cybercriminals are launching fake AI apps and malware-infected software disguised as free versions of popular tools to steal data. Google urged users to stay cautious, noting that legitimate employers never ask for upfront payments, and advised verifying emails, job ads, and websites before responding. The company is also enhancing protections through AI-powered scam detection in Gmail, Google Messages, and Chrome’s Safe Browsing features to help users stay safe online.
