WhatsApp is rolling out a new “Summarize with Meta AI” feature in its Android beta, enabling users to generate concise summaries of unread messages in individual and group chats with a single tap.
Operated under an opt-in setting called Private Processing, the feature ensures all data is handled in a secure, cloud-based Trusted Execution Environment (TEE). This means that neither WhatsApp nor Meta can access users’ message content, and summaries are erased immediately after generation.
Moreover, conversations with Advanced Chat Privacy enabled will not support AI summaries.
WhatsApp is also testing a “Writing Help” tool that refines tone and clarity in messages pre-send, using the same privacy-first approach.
These enhancements balance convenience and privacy: completely optional and transparent, while firmly upholding end-to-end encryption standards.
