OpenAI’s Codex AI Agent Now Live for ChatGPT Plus Users with Internet Access

OpenAI has expanded access to its AI coding agent, Codex, now available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. Previously exclusive to Pro, Team, and Enterprise tiers, this move democratizes advanced coding assistance for individual developers and smaller teams.

The standout feature of this update is Codex's newfound ability to access the internet during coding tasks. This enhancement enables the AI to install dependencies, interact with staging servers, and execute tests requiring external resources. However, OpenAI has implemented safeguards by disabling internet access by default; users must manually enable it and can specify which domains Codex can access and the HTTP methods it can use. Additionally, voice input functionality has been introduced, allowing developers to dictate coding tasks, thereby streamlining workflows and enhancing accessibility.
