Apple researchers have raised concerns about the capabilities of large language models like ChatGPT O3, claiming they often falter when confronted with real-world complexity.
In a new technical report, Apple’s AI team argued that while these models can convincingly simulate intelligence in simple tasks, they break down when deeper reasoning or multi-step analysis is required. The findings highlight a significant gap between surface-level coherence and genuine problem-solving ability.
“Despite appearing intelligent, these models collapse under complex conditions,” the report noted, urging caution in overestimating current AI capabilities.
The critique underscores Apple's push to improve its own AI systems ahead of expected announcements at its annual WWDC conference. As tech giants race to dominate generative AI, Apple’s comments signal a growing call for more robust, context-aware intelligence—beyond just linguistic fluency.
