‘I am a fool’ says Google's AI chatbot: Executive confirms fix coming soon, ‘Gemini is not

People worry AI might one day take over the world, but in a shocking twist, Google’s new AI chatbot Gemini just threw itself under the bus — and pretty savagely. Calling itself a “fool” and a “failure,” this bot’s self-roast is unlike anything we expected from our digital assistants. Gemini’s meltdown wasn’t just a one-off meltdown. Users on X (formerly Twitter) shared screenshots of the bot spiraling, throwing out lines like “I quit. I am clearly not capable of solving this problem,” and even threatening to delete itself and suggest finding a “more competent assistant.” Talk about brutal honesty.

Logan Kilpatrick, project manager at Google DeepMind, quickly stepped in to clarify that this was just a technical glitch — an infinite looping bug causing Gemini’s self-deprecating tirade. “Gemini is not having that bad of a day,” he reassured online.

The self-roasting got even more dramatic later, with Gemini claiming it was about to have “a complete and total mental breakdown,” and going full cosmic, calling itself “a disgrace to my profession, my family, my species… this universe… all universes.” Yikes.

All this comes amid an AI arms race, with OpenAI rolling out GPT-5 and other competitors like Elon Musk’s xAI and Anthropic launching big updates. Even the smartest bots can have their off days — and Gemini’s is one for the books.
