Apple has officially announced its annual fall event, scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, where the Cupertino giant is expected to unveil the next generation of iPhones, likely including the long-rumoured iPhone 17 Air. CEO Tim Cook took to X to tease the event, hinting at surprises with a glowing Apple logo in blue and yellow. The launch will be streamed live from Apple Park at 10 a.m. PT, or 10:30 p.m. IST.
Industry whispers suggest Apple is retiring the Plus model in favour of the iPhone 17 Air, touted as the slimmest iPhone ever at just 5.5 millimetres thick. While the sleeker design may reduce battery capacity to around 2,900mAh, the Air is expected to feature Appleās C1 modem and the latest A19 chipset.
Alongside the Air, the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to make their debut. The Pro models may showcase a redesigned aluminium camera module on the glass back, with an 8X telephoto lens for enhanced photography.
In India, the iPhone 17 series could see a slight price hike. The base iPhone 17 may start at Rs 79,990, the iPhone 17 Air at Rs 89,990, the Pro at Rs 1,34,990, and the 17 Pro Max at Rs 1,64,990. For context, the iPhone 16 Pro Max launched at Rs 1,44,990.
Beyond iPhones, Apple is expected to refresh its wearable lineup, including the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra, and AirPods Pro 3. Updates on Apple Intelligence may also be unveiled, signalling new software and ecosystem enhancements.
September 9 promises to be a showcase of sleek design, high-end performance, and perhaps the slimmest iPhone Apple has ever made.
