In a rare and dramatic turn of events, after India defeated Pakistan by five wickets to win the Asia Cup, the Indian players refused to accept the trophy from ACC President and Pakistani minister Mohsin Naqvi during the post-match ceremony. As Naqvi waited onstage, the Indian team stood back and declined to come forward, even though the Emirates Cricket Board vice-chairman was present and could have handed over the award. After almost an hour of deadlock, the trophy was quietly taken backstage without being presented to India. The team later returned to the stage, celebrated with confetti and photos, but India left the stadium empty-handed. Reports say India had informed the ACC earlier that they would not accept the trophy if Naqvi presented it, especially in view of prior tensions including Naqvi’s controversial social media posts and aggressive positions regarding Indian players.
