Sarfaraz Khan, despite an excellent domestic season and significant fitness improvements after losing 17 kg, was excluded from the India A squad for the upcoming two first-class matches against South Africa A. His omission is reportedly due to the return of Rishabh Pant, who has been named captain of India A and will bat at No. 5, the same position Sarfaraz had been aiming for. Selectors have suggested that Sarfaraz’s best chance to re-enter the national setup would be to move higher up the batting order. A former national selector advised him to discuss the matter with Ajinkya Rahane and the Mumbai team management about taking the No. 3 slot, as competition for the lower middle order remains intense with multi-skilled players like Pant, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, and Nitish Reddy already in the mix.
