Nishad Kumar scripts history, clinches World Para Athletics C'ships gold in high jump - Watch

Nishad Kumar made history by winning his first gold medal at the World Para Athletics Championships in the men’s high jump T47 event in New Delhi, having previously earned silvers at the Tokyo and Paris Paralympics and in past World Championships. He cleared every earlier height on his first attempt and ultimately succeeded at 2.14 m (a personal best and Asian record), though his bid to break the world record at 2.18 m fell short. He defeated three-time world and Paralympic champion Roderick Townsend (who cleared 2.03 m) and Turkey’s Abdullah Ilgaz (2.08 m) to take the title. His victory coincided with fellow Indian athlete Simran Sharma claiming gold in the 100 m T12 final in a personal best 11.95 seconds, contributing to a strong medal haul for India at the meet.
