'Look at our neighbours...': Ex-cricketer on Congress' spokesperson's comment about Sarfaraz Khan's religion

Former cricketer Atul Wassan criticised a comment by Shama Mohamed, a spokesperson for the Indian National Congress, who had questioned whether Sarfaraz Khan had been left out of the national team because of his surname and implied religious bias in his non-selection; Wassan said he felt “ashamed” that such communal narratives were being brought into sports, pointed to India’s higher-moral-ground tradition in cricket compared to neighbouring countries where players’ faiths have been unfairly targeted, added that cricketers should be judged solely on merit not religion, and called the remarks a serious insult to the Indian cricket system.
