Both players have been out of action since the Champions Trophy in March, following their retirements from T20Is after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win and from Tests earlier this year. The announcement will also clarify the ODI captaincy situation, with Rohit’s role under discussion, and address selection issues caused by injuries to Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant, along with workload management for Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah. Many players from India’s Champions Trophy-winning squad, including Shreyas Iyer, are expected to retain their spots, while youngsters like Abhishek Sharma are being considered for inclusion. The Australia tour will begin with a three-match ODI series starting on October 19, followed by a five-match T20I series.
