Placing one’s trust in someone, especially a young player, is no small thing. But Washington Sundar has earned the full support of former India head coach Ravi Shastri. At just 25, Sundar is being seen as a promising all-rounder with a bright future in Test cricket.
Speaking on The ICC Review after the third Test, Shastri praised Sundar’s composure, technical finesse, and cricketing intellect. Shastri says he has always loved Washington and believed him to be “the man.” He feels Washington is fully capable of becoming a long-term all-rounder for the Indian cricket team.
Sundar made headlines with his Test debut at the Gabba in 2021, where he scored a vital 62 and bowled with maturity. Despite limited chances, his performance across formats shows promise. With Shastri’s backing and consistent opportunities, Sundar could become a key player in India's Test lineup.
