Algeria’s Olympic boxing champion Imane Khelif is not hanging up her gloves any time soon. The 26 year old, fresh off her gold medal triumph in the women’s 66kg category at the Paris Games, has firmly dismissed rumours of retirement that swirled after comments from her former manager.

In a pointed Facebook post, Khelif clarified, “Reports of my retirement from boxing are false.” She went further, accusing ex manager Nasser Yesfah of “betraying my trust and my country with false and malicious statements,” making it clear that he no longer represents her in any capacity.

The spark for the confusion came earlier in the day, when French daily Nice Matin reported Yesfah’s claim that Khelif was stepping away from the sport, though without offering details on whether it was temporary or permanent.

Khelif’s rebuttal left little room for doubt. She underlined her dedication to her career, noting that she continues to train between Algeria and Qatar in preparation for upcoming events. The timing of her clarification is crucial, with the world boxing championships set to take place in Liverpool from September 4 to 14, and the deadline for entries looming.

Her statement not only quashes speculation but also reinforces her resilience. Having faced controversy and pressure on and off the ring, Khelif’s message is unmistakable: she remains focused, disciplined, and determined to keep delivering knockout performances for her country.
