Not just women, men too have a biological clock that starts ticking at...

A new 2025 study published in Science Advances challenged long-held beliefs about human fertility, suggesting that for women aged 22 to 42, mitochondrial DNA mutations in their eggs remain relatively stable, implying that egg quality may not decline as sharply as once thought. Meanwhile, in men, sperm quality does deteriorate with age due to accumulation of DNA errors from repeated cell divisions, which raises risks for fertility issues, miscarriages, and certain developmental disorders in offspring. The findings indicate that both men and women have biological clocks, though the mechanisms differ, and underscore the importance of fertility awareness, testing, healthy lifestyle habits, and joint reproductive care for couples.
