Observed globally on June 21, International Yoga Day promotes the ancient Indian discipline as a tool for holistic health and well-being. The date coincides with the summer solstice the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere symbolizing light, balance, and renewal, all core to yoga philosophy.
Initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and adopted by the United Nations in 2014, the day underscores yoga’s universal relevance beyond borders and faiths. Since then, it has been marked annually with millions participating in yoga sessions worldwide.
The 2025 theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” focuses on enhancing personal wellness while fostering harmony in communities. As stress, lifestyle disorders, and mental health concerns grow globally, this year’s observance emphasizes yoga's transformative role in both individual health and societal resilience.
