Hibiscus oil, celebrated in Ayurvedic texts and now backed by dermatologists, is gaining traction as a drug-free aid for hair regrowth. The flower’s rich mix of amino acids, vitamin C and anti-inflammatory anthocyanins is said to stimulate dormant follicles, curb breakage and calm an itchy scalp.
Make it at home:
• Rinse a handful of fresh red hibiscus petals; pat dry.
• Warm 100 ml coconut or sesame oil on low heat.
• Add petals; simmer 20 minutes without boiling.
• Cool, strain and store in a dark glass bottle.
Massage two teaspoons into the scalp, leave for at least an hour or overnight then shampoo. Used twice weekly, results typically show within eight weeks, experts note. The oil also doubles as a natural conditioner, adding sheen and slowing premature greying. Always perform a patch test to rule out plant allergies.
