What began as a teeny, quirky collectible has now exploded into a global obsession. People are officially obsessed with Labubus. But what exactly is a Labubu? They’re wide-eyed, slightly mischievous characters from artist Kasing Lung’s Nordic folklore-inspired series The Monsters. And these days, they’ve taken centre stage on social media—becoming pint-sized canvases of creative liberty and fashion.
But simply owning a Labubu? That’s just the beginning. Customisation is where the fun (and fandom) truly begins. Digital creator Hamsha Thavaseelan brought her Labubu to two Tamil weddings—dressing it up in a full-blown Tamilian makeover, complete with a bindi, jasmine flowers, a tiny handbag, and even matching outfits. Artist Gurnoor Anand took hers to a boutique for tailor-made miniature garments. And Christine Doan on Instagram went all out, giving her Labubu the full influencer treatment—fluttery lashes, nail art, and a glam handbag.
From dolls in kanjeevaram saris to scuba-ready fits, fans are investing not just money, but emotion and time into their Labubus. For many, it’s not just a toy—it’s a mini personality, a stylish little companion to nurture and show off.
