Shah Rukh Khan once shared an anecdote about introducing his wife, Gauri Khan, as "Ayesha" to avoid family backlash during their early courtship days. Reflecting on the challenges of their interfaith relationship, SRK revealed in an old interview that he jokingly asked Gauri to wear a burqa and adopt a Muslim name when visiting his relatives, fearing their disapproval.
The statement, made in jest, underscores the complexities the couple faced before marriage. Gauri, who comes from a Hindu Punjabi background, initially met resistance from Khan’s family due to religious differences. However, the couple eventually won over their families and married in 1991.
The revelation resurfaced online, sparking mixed reactions. While some viewed it as harmless humour, others raised concerns about cultural sensitivity. Still, it remains a notable glimpse into the early struggles of one of Bollywood’s most iconic couples.
