Parenthood often brings new perspectives, and for cricketer Virat Kohli, the experience has been quite humbling and also transformative. In a recent episode of the Royal Challengers Bangalore podcast, Kohli spoke candidly about how becoming a father has reshaped his understanding of life, responsibility, and helped him attain newer perspectives. He credited much of his personal growth to his wife, actor-producer Anushka Sharma, acknowledging the “massive” sacrifices she has made throughout their journey as parents.
Kohli and Sharma, who tied the knot in 2017, welcomed their daughter Vamika in January 2021, followed by the birth of their son Akaay in 2024. Balancing the demands of parenthood along with the pressures of a public life, especially under the continuous inspection of a cricket-loving nation, is no easy task. Kohli emphasised that Anushka has shouldered these responsibilities with strength and resilience, allowing him to focus on his career.
He also admitted in his earlier interviews that the pressures of professional cricket have at times affected his mental well-being, making him “cranky” or “snappy” during difficult phases. In those moments, he said, it was Anushka’s unwavering support that grounded him. “Whatever problems I had were nothing compared to what she endured,” he added.
Describing her as a major source of inspiration, Kohli highlighted how Anushka’s presence has influenced not just his personal life, but his career as well. Her quiet strength and ability to manage both home and public expectations have played a vital role in his journey, both as a father and as a national sports figure.
