Sona Comstar’s board has appointed Jeffrey Mark Overly, an independent director since 2021, as its new chairman, following the sudden demise of Sunjay Kapur, aged 53. Kapur, who tragically passed away from a heart attack reportedly after an allergic reaction from a bee bite during a polo match in London had steered the firm to a market cap of ₹31,000 crore.
In compliance with his succession plan, Kapur’s third wife, Priya Sachdev, has been named a non‑executive director of Sona Comstar, while Kapur himself was honoured with the title of Chairman Emeritus. His two children with ex-wife Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan will not inherit equity but have been secured financially through ₹14 crore each in bonds and a monthly stipend of ₹10 lakh.
While the board and Kapur’s sisters are expected to maintain strategic control, daughter Samaira and son Kiaan have been provided long‑term financial stability. Thus, Sona Comstar’s leadership and the late Kapur’s legacy remain firmly anchored in professional governance and meticulous estate planning.
