Saiyaara writer breaks silence on Ahaan Panday and Aneet Pad ..

Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara is riding high and fast at the box office, crossing the ₹500 crore mark worldwide and firmly claiming its place as the year’s biggest romantic blockbuster. But here comes the twist, the big question—is it a copy or an inspiration?

Alongside the applause, whispers have begun to swirl—accusations that the film borrows a little too heavily from the beloved Korean classic A Moment To Remember. The film’s writer, Sankalp Sadanah, is not shying away from the conversation. Speaking to trade analyst Komal Nahta, he firmly dismissed the plagiarism claims. “Honestly, so much has already been said about this. All I can say is—the Korean film is out there, and so is Saiyaara. Watch both and judge for yourself. You’ll be able to tell whether it’s inspired, a copy, or an original,” he said.

Tracing the story’s beginnings, Sankalp shared that the spark for Saiyaara was lit during a rainy afternoon in Bandra. He had dropped by Mohit Suri’s office for a discussion on Aashiqui 3 when, just as he was about to leave, Suri asked him to stay and hear an idea. There was no story, no screenplay—just a fragment of emotion.

“That discussion gave birth to the core of Saiyaara. At that time, there was no structure—only a feeling,” Sankalp recalled. The seed of the film came from a single line that made its way into the final cut: ‘A hit song isn’t the one that stays in your head; it’s the one that stays in your heart.’ From that sentiment, the rest of the narrative grew.

Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara has been more than just a dream debut—it has been a goldmine for Yash Raj Films, delivering record profits and a fan following that shows no signs of slowing. Controversy or not, the numbers speak for themselves.
