Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Deepika Padukone 'Spirit' controversy: Divided Twitterati ask 'misogyny' or 'just a misunderstanding'?

Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga has once again found himself at the center of controversy, this time over his upcoming film Spirit, which reportedly stars Deepika Padukone. Social media erupted in debate after speculations surfaced about Deepika playing a character who may be subjected to emotionally intense or controversial situations in the film drawing criticism from some users over Vanga’s storytelling style.

Vanga, known for Kabir Singh and Animal, has often faced flak for allegedly glorifying toxic masculinity. The chatter around Spirit intensified when a section of Twitter users questioned whether the portrayal of female characters in his films promotes misogyny. The discussion quickly split audiences while some accused the director of recycling problematic themes, others defended him, claiming his work is misunderstood and his characters are simply flawed and human.

Supporters pointed out Deepika's history of choosing bold roles and suggested the criticism might be premature since no official details about her character have been confirmed. Others questioned why artistic freedom is so often challenged before a film is even released.

The film has yet to officially unveil its cast or plot, but the buzz and debates it’s generating online suggest that Spirit is already one of the most talked-about projects in Bollywood, even before it hits the floors.
