CLAT UG 2025: SC ‘anguished’ over NLU consortium’s ‘casual manner’ of framing questions

The Supreme Court has expressed serious concern over how questions were framed for the CLAT UG 2025 exam, calling the approach "casual and unscientific." The criticism came in response to a plea filed by a group of students who challenged the quality and fairness of the questions.

The petitioners claimed that ambiguities and errors in the paper affected their performance and ranking. In response, the Court has issued a notice to the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs), asking for a formal explanation.

The bench emphasized the importance of fairness in competitive exams like CLAT, which play a crucial role in determining students’ futures. A hearing is expected soon, as the court examines whether the evaluation process needs reforms.
